MDOC Union County Release Paths
A felony sentence from Union County can move a person from the county jail to an MDOC reception point or prison anywhere in Mississippi. The county record may call that event “released to MDOC,” but confinement continues. The MDOC entry date, location, and location-change date then establish state custody.
A later state exit can take several forms. Parole is granted by the Mississippi State Parole Board and continues under supervision. Earned Release Supervision, or ERS, is a statutory movement into community supervision under MDOC authority. Conditional medical release has its own authority. Discharge generally marks the end of the stated MDOC obligation. A transfer to another custodian is not a community exit.
Search MDOC Union Releases
The official MDOC Inmate Search accepts a name or MDOC ID. Use the ID when available. Open the full detail record rather than relying on a short result. Confirm birth date, physical description, photo, sentence facts, and county of conviction before treating it as the right person.
- Enter the last and first name, then retry with the MDOC ID if known.
- Open the detail record and verify identity from more than the name.
- Check conviction county for the Union County link and read the entry date, location, and location-change date.
- Read the exact “Tentative Release Date” label, but do not call it an actual release.
- Search the separate Parolee Search when parole may have followed incarceration.
- Use SAVIN and MDOC Records to resolve an unclear location or past tentative date.
A missing MDOC result can mean the person was never committed to MDOC under that identity. It does not prove release. County misdemeanors, dismissed charges, municipal cases, federal matters, and sealed events may never appear in this state-prison search.
MDOC Union Release Record Fields
The public detail page contains far more than a search row. Its fields help identify the right offender and distinguish a future estimate from a past custody event. The research documents the current field set from an official example record.
| Field group | Use in release verification |
|---|---|
| Name, photo, MDOC ID, birth date, descriptors | Confirms identity |
| Entry date, location, unit, location-change date | Shows state placement and movement |
| Offenses, sentence lengths, sentence dates | Connects the state record to imposed terms |
| County of conviction | Connects the record to Union County when applicable |
| Tentative Release Date | Shows MDOC's administrative estimate, not proof of exit |
The official example MDOC detail record shows how these fields appear.

The image demonstrates the statewide record layout. It is a field example, not a Union County person's record and not evidence about any local inmate.
MDOC Tentative Release Dates
“Tentative Release Date” is the exact public label. It is an estimate made through MDOC time computation, not a court promise. MDOC computes sentence terms, parole and ERS dates, tentative release, discharge dates, and qualifying county-jail credit. The public date can move.
Changes may follow corrected jail credit, an amended sentence, another sentence, lost or restored earned time, a detainer, residence approval issues, or a new eligibility review. A blank field should not be filled by guesswork. A past tentative date with the person still shown in custody requires a records check.
Mississippi's earned-time and ERS framework is complex. The often-cited 85% facility and possible 15% ERS structure applies only to qualifying cases under governing law. It is not a universal automatic-release rule. Parole eligibility is separate, and eligibility only permits Board consideration.
Note: MDOC, not a private calculator, performs the official time computation and applies the controlling judgment, credits, and eligibility rules.
MDOC Parole After Union Release
The Mississippi State Parole Board decides parole. MDOC Community Corrections supervises the person after release. Use the separate MDOC Parolee Search, which accepts first name, last name, MDOC ID, city, and county. A Union filter points to present supervision geography, not necessarily the county of conviction.
Union County has its own MDOC field office in New Albany. A parolee or person on ERS can be outside an institution and still appear in state systems. Contact that office for public local assignment information. Do not infer a home address from county selection or seek private supervision details.
Parolee Search confirms a parole relationship. Match it to the offender detail and the Board or MDOC exit record. A grant decision does not always cause same-day physical release because a detainer, residence issue, paperwork, or another sentence may intervene.
Request MDOC Union Release Records
When the public page is unclear, MDOC Records is the authoritative time-computation fallback. A useful request supplies the full name and MDOC ID, identifies the Union County sentence when relevant, and seeks the public parts of entry and exit dates, release type, discharge date, time computation, jail credit, and location history.

For a photo, ask for the public offender photograph tied to the MDOC ID, not an entire institutional file. Medical, victim, presentence, and other confidential content may not be public. If a date appears wrong, provide the MDOC ID and controlling court order and ask for the corrected public computation.
Mississippi Corrections Contact
The state system is not located at the Union County Jail. MDOC's main office and Records unit serve offenders held across Mississippi. The statewide directory should be used for questions about current facilities, central records, and community corrections.

A Union County sentencing or commitment order remains with the appropriate court. MDOC supplies its custody and computation record. The county Sheriff supplies the earlier jail booking and transfer record. Keep those custodians separate when seeking copies.
MDOC Union Release Notifications
MS SAVIN/VINE covers MDOC state offenders and participating county jail systems. Search by name or offender ID and inspect the agency, status, location, and status date. Mississippi supports notices for release, transfer, return to custody, and escape or abscond supervision.
The Registration Link can carry an alert from county custody into MDOC or other custody. This helps prevent a Union County transfer from looking like an untracked release. Still, notification data follows agency entry and may not match the exact physical movement minute.
Call MS SAVIN at 601-359-5759 during business hours or 1-888-9-MSSAVIN for 24-hour help. Confirm the final release type and actual date with MDOC Records when legal effect matters.
Reconcile Union State Releases
A complete chain begins with the Union County court judgment and county jail transfer. It continues with MDOC entry, facility location, sentence record, and an actual state exit. Parolee Search, SAVIN, and the Union field office can then establish ongoing community supervision.
| Record | What it proves |
|---|---|
| Union jail destination says MDOC | County custody ended by transfer |
| MDOC entry and location | State custody began |
| Tentative Release Date | An estimate, not a completed exit |
| Parolee Search match | Parole supervision outside prison |
| MDOC actual exit or discharge record | The state custody event and its type |
For a full county-first lookup, use the Union County release records hub. It distinguishes county, state, federal, and immigration systems so one agency's exit is not mistaken for freedom from all custody.
When the conviction county says Union but the location is elsewhere, that is normal for a statewide system. The location field describes present MDOC placement, while conviction county links the sentence to the local court. A location-change date can show movement, yet it does not by itself identify the legal release type.
If the public page lists several sentences, review each offense, sentence date, and length. Consecutive and concurrent terms can affect computation. The court judgment and amendments control the imposed structure, while MDOC applies credits and eligibility rules. Ask Records to explain the public computation instead of deriving a date from one sentence row.
A discharge should also be matched to the specific MDOC obligation. Another local, federal, or immigration hold can begin after the state exit. The state record confirms the MDOC event only, and the destination or new custodian must be checked separately.
Historical state records can remain visible after discharge. Continued display does not mean active prison custody or supervision. Read the status and location fields, then obtain the actual exit or discharge data from MDOC Records. The record's persistence can aid identity matching, but it must not be described as a current hold without positive custody evidence.
